Valentine's Day can be a touchy subject.
Do you go for it all hearts and flowers or is it just another commercialised out-dated tradition?
It's a dilemma - you should show your love every day not just on one specified day. But if you ignore it are you destined for the dog house?
Here at Pebbles we are big softies and welcome any excuse to give and receive gorgeous jewellery - whether it's cheap and cheerful or outrageously extravagant.
If you need inspiration for valentine's Day - or any other day - here's our pick of the best.
So whether you celebrate Valentine's Day or not there's always an excuse (reason) to treat someone you love to gorgeous jewellery.
We would like to say say a HUGE thanks to all who came to our Exclusive Pebblettes Xmas Party last night.
For those of you that sadly couldn't make it here is a wee taster of the fun filled night of exclusive discounts and surprise extra savings (guests pulled a cracker at the till to find out how much extra discount they would get - some people saved an additional 25%!!). Santa himself even made an appearance bearing gifts for lucky guests!
Among the most popular items were our Fabulous Rew scarves.
The edgy style of Bjorg caught the eye of many of our guests.
Thank you again to everyone that helped to make it such a memorable evening, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Danielle, Val and Kevin x
Christmas is fast approaching and we are getting ready for it with lots of exciting new products at Pebbles.
It's a busy time for us at the moment as new products arrive on an almost daily basis in preparation for all our lovely Christmas shoppers - it still seems a long way off but it's not really (note to self - must be more organised this year).
We are delighted and excited to have the quirky edgy fashion brand - Bjorg jewellery back.
Popular with celebrities such as Rhianna, Kelly Rowland, and Cheryl Cole to name a few, you're in good company when you wear Bjorg jewellery.
For those of you who like to add a bit of sparkle to your outfit, the SPARK range of silver and crystal jewellery featuring SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS is perfect. We love these long shimering statement earrings.
There are also some exciting additions to the range of REW scarves in cosy fleece and in colours to brighten up and complement any outfit. These gorgeous scarves fasten with a single button and are so easy to wear - we love them!
We'll have more exciting new products to show you soon.
See you soon
Tonight is the Norse celebration Walpurgisnacht, and so to celebrate we are giving 50% off Bjorg jewellery for one week only (or until stocks last, which won't be long!).
The festival of Walpurgis is a night of both revelry and darkness. The nine nights of April 22nd to April 30th are venerated as rememberance of the All Father's self-sacrifice upon the World Tree Yggdrasil.
It was on the ninth night (April 30th, Walpurgisnacht) that he beheld the Runes, grasped them, and ritually died for an instant. At that moment, all the light in the 9 worlds is extinguished, and utter chaos reigns.
At the final stroke of midnight the light returns in dazzling brilliance and the bale fires are lit. On Walpurgisnacht, the dead have full sway upon the Earth; it is the ending night of the wild hunt.
May 1st is the festival of Thrimilci; the beginning of Summer. Thrimilci is a festival of joy and fertility.
Celebs and stylistas alike all love Bjorg jewellery and this is the perfect time to grab some for yourself!
One of my favourite pieces has to be the spine ring, Kelly Rowland and Cheryl Cole have both been spotted wearing it too!
As if you needed any reminding, Valentines Day is only a week away, so are you ready or are you still searching for the perfect gift for the special person in your life?
Here are a few of my favourites from our Valentines gift guide -
This red shamballa bracelet has everything! Sparkles, fashionable, affordable and most of all it is red, the colour of love!
Sphere Of Life necklaces are an amazing Valentines gift as you can choose the sentiment or message you would like to send. One of my absolute favourites of this range (because I am a bit of an old romantic) is Message In A Sphere - I Love You. We also have 20% off all of our Sphere Of Life necklaces up until Valentines Day!
Not really a hearts and flowers kind of person? Then how about this for a twist on the traditional heart necklace from Norwegian designer Bjorg? This is a way of truly giving your heart to the one you love!
Of course we haven't forgotten about all the men out there that like a bit of bling too! These gorgeous crystal heart and arrow cufflinks will brighten up his day and of course he will think you every time he sees them!
However you choose to spend you Valentines Day this year, be it out for a special meal or curled up with the one you love watching a film (mine will be at work and then at zumba!) I hope you have a fantastic day!
Ok guys I am going to share with you what I think are the best bits of the Pebbles sale! I love a good sale and nothing cheers me up more in January than a good hunt round to sniff out the bargains.
My first pick has to be this Get Real necklace from Bjorg. It was selling for £200 and now it is only £95! Now that is what I call a bargain!
My second pick is Zelia Horsley's Dirty Harry bracelet. This was £135 and now is only £85! I love the chunkiness and simplicity of this bracelet.
Next I have chosen the Eliza bag from designer Steven Harkin. This bag screams style and sophistication and also has a fun element. Was £390 and in the sale is now only £292.50!
My last choice from the Pebbles sale is this cheeky silver bangle. Inscribed 'Apudne te vel me? (your place or mine?) this silver bangle is a talking piece of jewellery. This certainly is a bargain as it was selling for £220 and is now only £95! That's a massive saving of £115!!!!!
There are many more massive savings to be found online and in our Edinburgh and Bo'ness stores so happy bargain hunting!
The reminders that Christmas will soon be upon us are everywhere. We are dusting down the decorations and preparing to Chrismassify (?) our shops.
We have lots of new stock ready to tempt customers - I'm always surprised by how many people come in looking for Christmas gifts and end up treating themselves as well!
Very popular so far are the Shamballa bracelets - lots of customers are telling me that they've seen them at much higher prices elsewhere, so they are buying more than one. I like their thinking "One for a gift and one for me."Also going down very well are the new pieces form Bjorg's Odyssey range, particularly the Winged ring as worn by Jessie J in her Price Tag video. The Spine collection has also been worn by Rhianna, Jessie J and most recently Kelly Rowland on The X Factor, and is proving popular with both guys and girls.
We're also loving the Gales of Passion collection from Ostrowski. Statement jewellery with Swarovski elements. There are pendants, earrings, bracelets and rings - GORGEOUS.
So as the time for mulled wine and mince pies is fast approaching, and we all get into gift buying mode, have a look at our Gift Guide where you're sure to find something to bring a smile to someones face - and why not treat yourself while your at it?
When Val and Kevin returned from Spring Fair (trade show) in February they were very excitied about one of the new designer handmade jewellery ranges they had ordered - Bjorg and Pebbles is the only jewellers in Scotland to have it. At the time I had never seen any Bjorg jewellery or even heard the name! That soon changed!
After drooling over pictures of this wonderfully gothic yet elegant jewellery I couldn't wait to get my hands on the real thing. A butterfly wing encased in glass, silver and gold skulls with rosecut diamonds for eyes, anatomically correct hearts and jewellery with quirky messages, I was getting more and more excited. I wasn't the only one going Bjorg mad, the jewellery press fell in love with her unusual and eye catching designs too. Articles ringing praises and predicting Bjorg jewellery as the next big thing were springing up all over the likes of Retail Jeweller magazine and celebs such as Rihanna and Jessie J are wearing it as well.
Designer Bjorg Nordli-Mathisen began designing jewellery whilst in India studying textiles, where she made 100 one of a kind pieces of jewellery and on her travels through Europe and the UK managed to sell them to stores such as Liberty. One of Bjorg's biggest inspirations is her birthplace as she explains to Laura McCreddie of Retail Jeweller 'I was born in the North of Norway above the Arctic Circle. There is something about the light there that is an influence, and I think my jewellery also has a simplicity that is very Scandinavian.'
Bjorg jewellery is raw, bold and playful, yet elegant and mesmerizing. I love how most of the items work as unisex pieces, and hold a universal power and aesthetic, rather than being defined by male or female jewellery. By mixing traditional craftsmanship and mythology with more modern and urban concepts the collection speaks both of stories in the past and of the time to come.
After seeing a picture of Rihanna wearing the gorgeous Bjorg Spine bangle at Nivea's 100th anniversary bash, I got to thinking, do celebs influence our style when it comes to jewellery?
It is a well known fact that celebrities such as Dannii Minogue, Fern Cotton, Cherly Cole and even the newly wed Dutchess of Cambridge (Kate Middleton) have a huge impact on what we wear. Sales of sapphire engagement rings more than tripled after Wills and Kate announced their engagement and the dress Kate wore for thier engagement pictures sold out quickly.
But when it comes to jewellery do we like to wear the same jewellery as our favourite celebrities or do we like to take a little of thier style and add our own finishing touches? When Katy Perry was announced as ambassador for Thomas Sabo were you reaching for your purse to buy the newest piece?
Here we have Sheridan Smith with her Steven Harkin 'Kylie' clutch bag which was named after the one and only Kylie Minogue who owns the bag in red patent. Do you think Sheridan bought it because of it's celebrity status?
Personally I like to choose my jewellery and accessories because I love the feel, finish or designer. It may be in the same style as one of the big style icons has worn but not the exact piece. Therefore I can add my own twist and match several pieces from different ranges and/or designers together.
For example I love to wear my Sphere Of Life charm bracelet everyday, sometimes teamed with a Sphere Of Life necklace, sometimes with a Tina Lilienthal (who is loved by loads of celebs including Davina McCall!) cherry necklace or if I am heading out I will dress it up with a bit of sparkle!
I love to check out the magazines to see the latest style do's and don'ts but when it comes to choosing what I wear I love to be individual. I may have some pieces that are also owned by celebs but I have chosen them beacuase I love them for their design not because of who I have seen wearing them!
When choosing jewellery are you more likely to choose a well known brand or go for something individual from a designer maker?
I have to admit that when I was a bit younger I would go for a brand every time, probably because when you are younger you tend to follow whatever your friends are wearing. I still love some brands such as Sphere Of Life and Step By Step but as I grow older and learn more about the designers, we stock at Pebbles I find myself swaying on the side of the designers.
I love the thought of having a unique piece of jewelley that no one else in the world has. The imagination and inspiration of jewellery designers fascinates me (as I am the least artistic person you could ever meet!), the use of materials such as silver, gold, steel, acrylic and even rubber to make the most intricate or bold pieces that make me smile.
This silver, gold and diamond ring from British designer Paul Finch's Trapped collection is simple, elegant and unusual. I love the way the diamonds look as though they are 'trapped' in the shell. It could be worn everyday or dressed up for a night out.
I love the work of Tina Lilenthalfor her playful way of mixing acrylic with silver and in this case green gingham material. Her designs are quirky and are loved by poeple that like jewellery with a contemporary touch.
Bjorg jewellery is tipped by people in the jewellery press to be the next BIG thing. I love they way she uses gothic influences to give a modern take on this heart pendant. The heart is anatomically correct and the tag reads 'ab imo pectore' which translates as 'from the bottom of my heart.'
Some people like to be loyal to a brand and religiously buy anything they release, even if they don't particularly like it! Just so they can have the newest piece. Where as if you choose a piece from an individual designer you are choosing it because you love their style and uniqueness.
So are you a jewellery brand snob or a designer diva? For the moment I am a bit of both but who knows if in the future that will change!
