While fashion magazines are going wild for who wore what designer dress and who looked best on the red carpet at the Oscars last night, there is just one thing that catches my eye and that is the jewellery!
As usual the A list celebrities didn't disappoint on that front and so I thought I would share with you some of my favourite pieces from the film awards.
Just as the fashion mags are all alight with Gwyneth Paltrow's stunning Tom Ford dress it was what she was adorning her arm with that caught my eye. A one off Hearts Of Fire cuff set with 2368 rose cut diamonds from Anna Hu.
Natalie Portman's Platinum and diamond necklace caught my attention for it's simplicity and elegance and paired with gorgeous diamond earrings, she looked fantastic.
Beautiful and stylish as ever Cameron Diaz rocked the statement ring look. I am a big fan of large rings being stacked and Cameron does this wonderfully with a platinum round cut diamond Dome ring from Tiffany & Co.
Finishing off my picks from the Oscars 2012 is Ms Jennifer Lopez wearing simple yet stunning platinum and diamond earrings from Lorraine Schwartz. Perhaps an unusual choice for me as I am usually all about big bold contemporary jewellery but I simply love the simplicity of these gorgeous earrings.
Visiting trade fairs is an essential part of our business, it's where we keep up to date with developments in the trade and meet new designers and catch up with old friends. Believe it or not it is actually quite hard work attending seminars, watching fashion shows and looking at gorgeous jewellery!
So it's really nice when you can combine this with a relaxing stay in a nice hotel. We drove from Bo'ness to Lancaster where we stayed overnight in a fabulous restored mill on the canal. The Mill at Conder Green. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with views along the canal, the service and the food was excellent. In fact we enjoyed it so much that we booked another night to break up the return journey.
It was only a couple of hours drive from there to Birmingham NEC and the madness that is Spring Fair. So we arrived around lunchtime and spent the afternoon admiring some amazing jewellery, searching out new handbag suppliers and enjoying the fashion show before heading off to a country house hotel near Coventry.
I won't go into detail but this hotel unfortunalely did not live up to expectations (tiny room, champagne that had been ordered not in the room, restaurant in another building - I could go on...)
Our second day at Spring Fair was spent placing orders. The two jewellery designers that stood out for us were Jessica Flinn who makes beautiful lace etched cuffs, necklaces and earrings, and Tatty Devine's quirky perspex necklaces and brooches.
Then it was time to hit the road again. We spent another enjoyable night at The Mill at Conder Green before heading back home. All in all it was a very successful trip - exciting new stock for the shop, good food and wine and ONE nice hotel.
When's the next Trade Fair?
When I visited Inhorgenta Jewellery Trade Show in February I was excited and amazed at the diversity and style of what was on offer.
One of the designers who really impressed me was Anastsia Kochaimidou - so much so that I knew immediately that we had to stock her work.
Aesthetics with a flair! If there's something that distinguishes Anastasia's jewellery, it's their ethereal movement and elegance with which they 'sit' individually on every woman.
Because each piece is designed and hand-made by Anastasia, I've had to wait a while for our order to arrive, but it's here now and it's just as gorgeous as I remembered it! My favourite is this flower necklace which can be worn with the flowers intertwined at the front or with one over the shoulder like a scarf - perfect with a strappy sundress.
Let us know what you think.
As this is my first ever blog, I thought I should introduce myself. My name is Danielle and I am lucky enough to have one of the biggest jewellery boxes a girl could want! Two whole jewellery shops, one in Edinburgh and one in Bo'ness! My Mum and Dad (Val and Kevin) own Pebbles and since October 2009 I have been working with them.
This is not the first time I have worked with jewellery or indeed for my family, I have been involved with the manufacturing of jewellery (I am not creative enough to ever design anything!) from the casting to polishing the finished product, I have had a go at it all. Although I enjoyed being involved in making beautiful pieces I must admit I would much rather be here in the shop selling (and trying on) designer jewellery to our wonderful customers!
I am a lover all things that sparkle, crystal or diamonds but I can also be found wearing stylish and unusual designer pieces. I love them all. I guess I am a little magpie when it comes to jewellery. I have a very varied jewellery box (at home), from fashion jewellery to fine gold with diamonds you will find them all. Simple and elegant to statement and bold depending on what takes my mood at that particular time.
Take a look at some of my favourite pieces that can be found at Pebbles -
Beautiful rose gold and diamond 'Starburst' ring from Jacob Issacharoff. I love the 3D effect of this ring, it looks as though it is 'bursting' from your finger. The soft rose gold makes this ring unusual and if I was to treat myself to one thing at the moment this would be it!
I love Tina Lilienthal's Dead Cute Jewellery range and this skull necklace has to be one of the best. Perfect for Summer, an eye catcher! It was difficult to choose between this and Tina's black cherry necklace. I have the black cherry and I wear it with everything! The skull with a butterfly is the next piece I would love to have.
Sphere Of Life is one range that I can take credit for! I was the one that discovered this great range and it has quickly became one of our best sellers. I love the simplicity and the little names that each piece is given. This one is Bring Me Spring and sums up how we are all feeling at the moment.
I love handbags aswell (don't we all?), I have the clutch version of this bag in beautiful bright fucshia pink. I bought it before it even made it to the shelves! I take it on nights out and always get admiring comments from my friends. I sometimes use it when I have a pair of jeans on for an instand lift to my outfit as well.
Pebbles are really excited and proud to be Scotland's stockists of Bjorg jewellery. Bjorg's jewellery has been getting loads of attention from the worlds jewellery press and is quickly developing a celebrity following. I love the sentiment of this necklace 'Be yourself - everyone else is taken'.
I have enjoyed writing my first ever blog and I hope you have enjoyed reading it! Stay tuned for more of my favourites, info about our designers and my opinions on all things jewellery and accessories.
