Custom Design and Commissions
A commissioned handmade custom designed ring or piece of jewellery is the ultimate statement of your individuality andcharacter. With our own in-house designer and access the UKs specialist makers, we can guarantee to create a unique high quality item to meet your desires.
This is a speciality for which we have become renowned with our customers referring and recommending their friends and family onto us on a regular basis.
Perhaps you have been left some jewellery by someone close and would love to keep the history and memories but turn them into an item you would wear with pride. Come and have an informal chat where we will run through the possibilities and give you the best guidance to help you decide how you would like the jewellery used.
It may be as simple as repairing or rebuilding the items to their original design or redesigning and remodelling the piece to give it a modern contemporary feel, or starting from a blank canvas and designing a completely new piece of jewellery using stones or other elements of the original.
Whichever way you choose to go you can be assured we will treat the pieces with utmost respect and when finished the new handmade creation will be a compliment to the originals.
When you don't know exactly what you want but know you want something different, contemporary and handmade, then our in-house design team can talk you through all of your options. We take time to listen, find out a little about you, your lifestyle, your likes and most importantly your dislikes. From there we will come up with some ideas and develop those along with you until we find the design you love.
Every handmade design or remodelling project is unique and therefore impossible to put a cost on until it has been defined. If you have a budget to work to it's best to be upfront about it at the initial consultation as we can advise on the best way to work within your comfort zone.
We do not charge for consultations or design work and will give you a fixed price once a final design has been agreed.
We'd love to help make your dreams become reality so why not make an appointment for a no obligation consultation?

As part of our Best Of British Designers celebration I got the opportunity to interview our wonderful British jewellery designers.
Today our featured British designer is Bex Bardon -
Bex Bardon is a self-confessed jewellery-aholic!
"I once read somewhere about the body being a blank canvas, that's just how I had always seen myself- a canvas to be adorned. I've always been interested in adornment in every form. I love jewellery and clothing to more extreme permanent expressions in tattoos and piercings. People are absolutely fascinating in the way that they choose to express themselves by what they are wearing. I find gothic and punk fashion especially liberating, it's fun, exciting and sexy in different ways. My jewellery range at the moment shows this, it's chunky statement jewellery."
Bex is based in West Yorkshire and runs her business from her workshop there.
'I decided I wanted to be a jewellery designer/maker when I was quite young, this is all I ever imagined doing and it's all I ever want to do! I have such freedom, its so exciting to make whatever I want to.'
What was the first piece of jewellery you made?
'I went through a phase of making brooches when I was little! The first serious jewellery I made was wedding jewellery for a friend.'
What is your biggest inspiration?
'The thing that inspires me most is punk fashion.'
Who do you admire most in the jewellery industry?
'This is a really tough one because there are so many amazing jewellers, its hard to narrow it down! I love Marta Mattsson's work, its so quirky and unusual and a bit gross!'
'It has to be Siouxsie from Siouxsie and the Banshees. I can really imagine her in my work, it would be amazing if she modelled my work......... maybe some day!'
For today only you can get your hands on your own piece of Bex Bardon jewellery with 15% off! Simply enter BEX15 at the checkout for your discount to be applied.
While fashion magazines are going wild for who wore what designer dress and who looked best on the red carpet at the Oscars last night, there is just one thing that catches my eye and that is the jewellery!
As usual the A list celebrities didn't disappoint on that front and so I thought I would share with you some of my favourite pieces from the film awards.
Just as the fashion mags are all alight with Gwyneth Paltrow's stunning Tom Ford dress it was what she was adorning her arm with that caught my eye. A one off Hearts Of Fire cuff set with 2368 rose cut diamonds from Anna Hu.
Natalie Portman's Platinum and diamond necklace caught my attention for it's simplicity and elegance and paired with gorgeous diamond earrings, she looked fantastic.
Beautiful and stylish as ever Cameron Diaz rocked the statement ring look. I am a big fan of large rings being stacked and Cameron does this wonderfully with a platinum round cut diamond Dome ring from Tiffany & Co.
Finishing off my picks from the Oscars 2012 is Ms Jennifer Lopez wearing simple yet stunning platinum and diamond earrings from Lorraine Schwartz. Perhaps an unusual choice for me as I am usually all about big bold contemporary jewellery but I simply love the simplicity of these gorgeous earrings.
Have you met THE ONE? Are you thinking of getting engaged on the most romantic day of the year (Valentines Day)? If you answered yes to either of the above questions then our January offer is definitely one you don't want to miss!
We are giving you an opportunity to buy a Platinum engagement ring for the price of 18ct gold!!!
How amazing is that? Simply order the 18 carat version of the ring you chose online and enter FREE PLATINUM UPGRADE in the comment box, or visit our Edinburgh store where you can see and try on our gorgeous rings.
Christie's sale of 80 items of jewellery belonging to the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor had been estimated to raise about $20m (£13m), but took more than double the record for a single collection. Many items sold well in excess of their estimate - up to 100 times higher.
The actress' famous 33.19-carat diamond ring, one of many pieces of jewellery given to her by Richard Burton, sold for $8.8m (£5.7m).
The highlight was a necklace featuring a 16th Century pearl which sold for
$11.8m (£7.6m), a record for pearl jewellery. The pearl, known as La Peregrina, has been depicted in artwork for centuries and was once painted by 17th Century Spanish artist Velazquez. It was owned by Mary Tudor and Spanish Queens Margarita and Isabel.
Richard Burton, bought the pearl in 1969 at auction for $37,000 (£23,800).
So even with the cost involved in commissioning Cartier to design a ruby-and-diamond necklace mount for the piece, I think you'll agree that it was a worthwhile investment!Pictured above is the La Perigrina Necklace and on the right the Price of Wales brooch, which was previously owned by the Duchess of Windsor and sold for $1,314,500.I hope the new owners enjoy thier jewels as much as Liz Taylor did.Certainly knocks my Christmas wish list into a cocked hat!Val x
The reminders that Christmas will soon be upon us are everywhere. We are dusting down the decorations and preparing to Chrismassify (?) our shops.
We have lots of new stock ready to tempt customers - I'm always surprised by how many people come in looking for Christmas gifts and end up treating themselves as well!
Very popular so far are the Shamballa bracelets - lots of customers are telling me that they've seen them at much higher prices elsewhere, so they are buying more than one. I like their thinking "One for a gift and one for me."Also going down very well are the new pieces form Bjorg's Odyssey range, particularly the Winged ring as worn by Jessie J in her Price Tag video. The Spine collection has also been worn by Rhianna, Jessie J and most recently Kelly Rowland on The X Factor, and is proving popular with both guys and girls.
We're also loving the Gales of Passion collection from Ostrowski. Statement jewellery with Swarovski elements. There are pendants, earrings, bracelets and rings - GORGEOUS.
So as the time for mulled wine and mince pies is fast approaching, and we all get into gift buying mode, have a look at our Gift Guide where you're sure to find something to bring a smile to someones face - and why not treat yourself while your at it?
When choosing jewellery are you more likely to choose a well known brand or go for something individual from a designer maker?
I have to admit that when I was a bit younger I would go for a brand every time, probably because when you are younger you tend to follow whatever your friends are wearing. I still love some brands such as Sphere Of Life and Step By Step but as I grow older and learn more about the designers, we stock at Pebbles I find myself swaying on the side of the designers.
I love the thought of having a unique piece of jewelley that no one else in the world has. The imagination and inspiration of jewellery designers fascinates me (as I am the least artistic person you could ever meet!), the use of materials such as silver, gold, steel, acrylic and even rubber to make the most intricate or bold pieces that make me smile.
This silver, gold and diamond ring from British designer Paul Finch's Trapped collection is simple, elegant and unusual. I love the way the diamonds look as though they are 'trapped' in the shell. It could be worn everyday or dressed up for a night out.
I love the work of Tina Lilenthalfor her playful way of mixing acrylic with silver and in this case green gingham material. Her designs are quirky and are loved by poeple that like jewellery with a contemporary touch.
Bjorg jewellery is tipped by people in the jewellery press to be the next BIG thing. I love they way she uses gothic influences to give a modern take on this heart pendant. The heart is anatomically correct and the tag reads 'ab imo pectore' which translates as 'from the bottom of my heart.'
Some people like to be loyal to a brand and religiously buy anything they release, even if they don't particularly like it! Just so they can have the newest piece. Where as if you choose a piece from an individual designer you are choosing it because you love their style and uniqueness.
So are you a jewellery brand snob or a designer diva? For the moment I am a bit of both but who knows if in the future that will change!
